Summary:
Teen misfits Gary (Anthony Michael Hall) and Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) design their ideal woman on a computer, and a freak electrical accident brings her to life in the form of the lovely, superhuman Lisa (Kelly LeBrock). She sets about dressing Gary and Wyatt in cool clothes, surprises them with a Porsche and helps them stand up to bullies (of sorts) Ian (Robert Downey Jr.) and Max (Robert Rusler). All the while, the boys must hide Lisa's existence from Chet (Bill Paxton), Wyatt's nightmare of a big brother.
Review:
This is actually really funny. I think some moments you just have to go with and not question or think about too much. The whole plot is whacky. It’s a fantasy. It’s a John Hughes film!
I love the creativity behind the plot though and watching the two boys as they go about the process of creating their “perfect” woman. From the 3D computer design, to the faxing in of the magazine pages as additions to her looks and persona. And of course, the sight of the pair of them with bras on their heads is hysterical!
This film has a very young Bill Paxton. Pre-Aliens and pre-Titanic. His character is an asshole but his portrayal of said asshole is fantastic. He's eccentric and full of energy.
I think this is actually a very sweet film re boosting a teenagers' self-esteem. That's the driving point of the plot. While it is being blatantly put in front of us through Kelly Le Brook's character, it's not patronizing or belittling about it. I think it's a very feelgood film in the middle of all its hilarity.

The soundtrack is pretty great too. General Public’s “Tenderness”, Van Halen’s “Pretty Woman”, Kim Wilde’s “Turn It On” – And the film even has Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells”!!! I love it.
This review is short and sweet. This is a wonderful classic teen 80s movie. Very, very funny. I really recommend it. One of John Hughes' best films.
